ART AND ESSAY COMPETITION (Secondary Schools)
As a part of the Centre's 40th Anniversary Celebration we present an Art and Essay Competition for Secondary School students. The Competition Guidelines may be found here or call the Centre at 667-4655 Ext 228 for details.
ART WORKSHOP (May 2007)
As a part of the Centre's 40th Anniversary Celebration we present an Art Workshop featuring Andrew Denman, the Society of Animal Artist's 2007 Don Eckelberry International Scholarship Awardee. The workshop will be held at the Asa Wright Nature Centre on the 12th May, 2007. Also participating will be the renowned local artist Larry Mosca.
OILBIRD LECTURE by IAN LAMBIE (May 2007)
As a part of the Centre's 40th Anniversary Celebration a Special Lecture on the Oilbirds of Dunston Cave will be given by Mr. Ian Lambie, former CEO and President Emeritus of the Asa wright Nature Centure. Mr. Lambie is also the author of the booklet "The Oilbirds of Dunston Cave", copies of which will be avaialble at the lecture. The workshop will be held at the Learning Resource Centre of the University of the West Indies on the 5th May, 2007 at 10:00am.
TRADITIONAL FOLKLORE AND STORYTELLING (March 2007)
As a part of the Centre's 40th Anniversary Celebration we present folklore and storytelling by Miguel Browne! This event is accompanied by a demonstration of the use of cocoa and coffee at the Asa Wright Nature Centre. The events are to be held from 10am - 2pm on the 9th and 14th March, 2007

EXCITING NEWS ON THE PAWI! (January, 2006)
Trinidad piping guans (Pawi) were observed in the Arima Valley approximately 3 km from the Nature Centre's Springhill facilities, at the Morne Bleu ridge, in January 2006.

27TH OCTOBER 2005 - AWNC PROVIDES STUDENT AWARDS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES
Each year the Asa Wright Nature Centre provides three awards to undergraduates at the University of the West Indies' St. Augustine campus, who have demonstrated excellence in their field. The AWNC supports these awards to encourage local students to become conservation professionals. These cash awards include the:

20TH JULY 2005 - LAUNCH OF A NEW PUBLIC EDUCATION POSTER ON THE PAWI (PIPILE PIPILE) On July 20th the Asa Wright Nature Centre together with its partners from the Environmental Management Authority and the Forestry Division launched the AWNC's new Pawi (Pipile pipile) education poster. Based on art work supplied by British wildlife artist Nigel Hughes, the poster was developed by the AWNC in support of the Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival being promoted by the Society for the Conservation and Study of Caribbean Birds.
The Pawi (Pipile pipile) is Trinidad's only endemic bird, and is currently critically threatened by hunting and habitat destruction.
